The Golden Opportunity Summit: Exploring Equity-Minded Approaches to Student Assignment and School Reform

  • 9:00 AM
  • Lavine Civic Forum, City Year, 287 Columbus Ave, Boston, MA 02116

Local educators, advocates, community members, parents and leading thinkers and practitioners from across the nation will convene to learn about and discuss student assignment and education reform initiatives in metropolitan Boston. The “Golden Opportunity Summit” will introduce new ideas, spark conversations, offer vital information and, we hope, engender the collaborations necessary to the development of a student assignment plan and the long-term health of the city and region.

The convening has two goals: 1) to assist Boston Public School officials and community members as they develop a new school assignment plan for the city’s students; and, more broadly; 2) to engage leading practitioners and thinkers who can inform local and state officials as well as concerned community members in a discussion about long-range planning and integrated policy development related to regional equity, public health, housing and schooling.

We hope attendees will be inspired to remain involved in these important matters following the Summit.
