FCC Releases Proposed Rules to Protect Broadband Consumer Privacy

In May 2016, the FCC opened its proposed framework to ensure that consumers can make informed choices about how their data is used and when it is shared by their broadband providers for comment. “The proposal is designed to ensure broadband customers have meaningful choice, greater transparency and strong security protections for their personal information collected by ISPs.” Increased privacy for consumers means less opportunity for providers to discriminate.
