Since Obama’s election in 2008, voter suppression has increased in an attempt to shrink the Democratic electorate. This includes new state policies that require registrants to provide full social security numbers and registration forms “to be submitted within a certain number of days after they have been filled out, otherwise those who have conducted the registrations are penalized.” With the increased difficulty in registering to vote, the author of this article, Bill Fletcher Jr., urges the public to create a new “freedom summer and fall,” “a major, multi-pronged mobilization that openly challenges voter suppression.”
