African Americans may be dying from COVID-19 at a higher rate. Better data is essential, experts say.

Reports are coming out indicating that COVID-19 is having a disproportionate impact on African Americans in at least some cities. But the federal government, and most state governments, have not released racial data on infections, testing, and deaths, which means we cannot know the true extent of these disparities. This has “created an information gap that could aggravate existing health disparities, prevent cities and states from equitably distributing medical resources and potentially violate the law.”
