The Advancement Project and
Power U Center for Social Change
October, 2017
Power U adopts what we would call a community justice framework, insisting that “people who are impacted by unjust laws and practices best understand the problems facing their communities and are best able to create solutions.”
According to the Advancement Project release of this report:
In a powerful demand for reproductive and restorative justice, a divestment from policing and increased transparency around student discipline, youth tell their truth in a school district nationally heralded for improving school climate.
The report also marks the launch of Power U’s new restorative justice campaign. The newest phase of its work explicitly links the right of communities of color to define the environments in which they live and raise families to restorative justice in schools.
