Few Rewards: An Agenda to Give America’s Working Poor a Raise

Nearly half the American workforce makes under $15 an hour — far too little to comfortably support a family, save for retirement, afford a good education, or own a home. This report proposes four essential policy shifts that would improve living conditions for the working poor: Raise the federal minimum wage, provide access to earned sick leave, protect overtime pay for millions of workers, and expand the Earned Income Tax Credit.

The report states, “Action to right these wrongs would make our economy and our society stronger, healthier, more equitable—and, perhaps most importantly, it would restore hope for the future.”
