New Economy Initiative

This initiative, a project of the Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan, founded in 2007, with support from 12 local and national foundations, tallies some $2.9 billion in “real output for the economy of Southeast Michigan” from its grant-giving. It is an impressive record for an undertaking with a simple and straightforward mission is to:

…create an inclusive, innovative regional culture by reawakening and leveraging Detroit’s creative entrepreneurial drive in order to establish a more diverse regional economy where opportunity, wealth and prosperity are available to all.

Using an equity framework, consistent with and informed by the work of Policy Link, it pursues its mission

By making grants to key organizations and initiatives supporting entrepreneurs and small businesses throughout the region (and) By convening those organizations and entrepreneurs through specific programming.
